The Sydney Cedars Sports Club was established in 1987 with the purpose of offering both youth orientated activities for the Sydney multi cultural community as well as to foster a healthy sporting lifestyle.

The Club's volleyball team became a focus with the advent in 1992 of the inaugural volleyball tour to Lebanon and the strong corporate support shown by the Bankstown District Sports Club, the Arab Bank and Elgas. The Lebanese tour went on to become an annual event and one that the Cedars have won every tour.

From an early period in the Clubs evolution the team began to attract the very best volleyball players in the country and within a very short time the Cedars were "the team that everyone wanted to beat". Setting the benchmark higher and higher is what the Cedars is all about and the occasional loss only encourages the Cedars players to try harder.

The Cedars Volleyball team has earned its reputation in the volleyball community and now the name Sydney Cedars comfortably sits alongside other great Australian club teams of the past and present such as Fort Street, Heidelberg, Wallabies, Phantoms and Northern Aurora.

Unlike some of these great teams the Cedars are determined to remain at the forefront of volleyball in Australia for many, many years into the future and has initiated many strategies to make this possible. Two of the most obvious plans are 1) the nurturing of junior players to fill the gaps as older players retire and 2) the purchase of the Cedars Club to provide ongoing support and resources to the team.
